ABOUT
LE COOKBOOK

CLUB

Le Cookbook Club is Montreal’s monthly potluck cookbook club, hosted by Jarvis Antonio Green. Each month, we gather to cook, share dishes, and enjoy a curated play reading over dinner. It’s a space to celebrate our love for food, cooking, and storytelling while building community through shared experiences.

At every gathering, a selected cookbook inspires the meal, with each guest bringing a dish from its pages. As we share the meal, we also share stories—both from the table and the stage—through a thoughtfully curated reading directed by Jarvis.

Le Cookbook Club is about more than just food. It’s a space to meet new people, exchange recipes, explore creativity, and experience the simple joy of gathering. Come cook with us, share with us, and be part of this delicious community.

ABOUT
Jarvis Green

Jarvis Antonio Green is a director, creative visionary, and community builder based in Montreal. As the former Founding Artistic Director of JAG Productions, a Vermont and NYC-based Black theatre company, he has dedicated his career to creating spaces for storytelling, connection, and collective healing.

His artistic practice is deeply rooted in the power of gathering. Food has always been central to how he directs, leads,  collaborates, and builds community, shaping his approach to theatre as a space for shared experience. This philosophy has extended into his current work, including Le Cookbook Club, a monthly potluck where folx cook from a selected cookbook and share stories over a curated table reading, blending nourishment and performance.

At the heart of his work as a director is a profound belief in theater’s ability to transform—to reach inside and shake our bones, leaving us changed. Jarvis is drawn to theater’s unique power to open us up, creating spaces where we can listen deeply, feel fully, and see ourselves and each other with fresh eyes. His purpose is to create theatre that is simple, playful, poignant, and alive with humanity—inviting audiences into experiences that are as joyful as they are challenging, and as generous as they are thought-provoking.

Jarvis is currently writing a methodology exploring how food, art, and storytelling intersect as tools for creative expression and community care. His work continues to explore how art can be both a mirror and a tool for imagining radical, joyous futures.

His influence spans theatre, education, and cultural organizing. He has directed and performed in numerous productions nationwide and developed Black theatre curricula for institutions like Northwestern University, Notre Dame, and Northern Vermont University. His legacy with JAG Productions includes founding JAGfest, one of the nation's leading incubators for new works by Black playwrights, and launching the Black Joy Project, a multi-tiered artistic exploration of Black creativity and liberation.

Jarvis’ work continues to center collaboration, creativity, and the belief that gathering—whether around a stage or a table—has the power to transform.
